Education & Outreach

In keeping with ETC’s mission of producing the finest theatrical productions, our Education and Outreach programs harness the professional quality of our artists to enrich the lives of our young people and the greater community. Through our programs, we work to help individuals develop self-confidence, social interaction, and fully realize their creative potential. Whether in our state-of-the-art facility or in the classroom, we seek to build relationships with various sectors of our community through acting and playwrighting classes, summer performance intensives, and access to professional productions through our student matinee performances. Our programs instill an appreciation of, and passion for, theatrical work, whether on the stage or behind the scenes.

Classes

Whether you are an aspiring actor or just want to try something new, ETC students will find themselves at ease in this supportive classroom environment as they expand their comfort zone, hone their skills and explore the exciting art of acting! Classes are held in the Fall and Winter and available for kids, teens and adults.

Young Actors Conservatory

ETC’s Young Actors Conservatory is a rigorous summer program designed to offer participants the experience of working in a professional setting alongside professional theater artists. Students receive challenging and innovative arts education similar to that of a collegiate arts program, supported by a comprehensive curriculum that balances performance and technique. Programs being offered include CAMP BROADWAY for students ages 8-12, and THE SHAKESPEARE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP and the MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP, both for students ages 13-22.

Young Playwrights Festival

The development of story-tellers for the future of the American Theater may be one of the most valuable educational programs that the ETC can offer the Santa Barbara community.  This 5 month-long program is free to all students ages 13-19. Acceptance is by application.

Student Matinees

Many of ETC’s mainstage productions are presented at a special student matinee for teachers and their students. Educators receive in advance a study guide to assist in preparing students for the production. Performances are usually followed by a post-performance talk with the cast. Free for public school groups and financial assistance for transportation is available.

Apprenticeships & Internships

Internships and Apprenticeships are available in the following areas: theater craft (sets, costumes, lighting, and sound), stage management, backstage crew, and administration. If you are interested please email education@etcsb.org.
